Elegant Black Velvet Cake 🍇🖤

Ingredients:

    • For the Cake:
    • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 2 1/2 cups granulated sugar
    • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (preferably dark cocoa powder)
    • 2 teaspoons baking powder
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1 cup buttermilk, room temperature
    • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
    • 2 large eggs, room temperature
    • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
    • 1 cup boiling water
    • 1 teaspoon black gel food coloring
    • For the Frosting:
    • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
    • 4 cups powdered sugar
    • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (preferably dark cocoa powder)
    • 1/2 cup heavy cream
    • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
    • Pinch of salt
    • For Decoration:
    • Fresh flowers (optional)
    • Edible glitter (optional)

Instructions:

    • Preheat Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line three 9-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
    • Prepare the Cake Batter:
    • In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
    • Add the buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed until well combined.
    • Gradually add the boiling water to the batter, mixing until smooth. Stir in the black gel food coloring until evenly distributed.
    • Bake the Cakes:
    • Divide the batter evenly among the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
    • Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
    • Prepare the Frosting:
    • In a large bowl, beat the butter until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar and cocoa powder, mixing on low speed until combined.
    • Increase the speed to medium and add the heavy cream, vanilla extract, and salt. Beat until the frosting is light and fluffy.
    • Assemble the Cake:
    • Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a generous amount of frosting over the top. Repeat with the second and third layers.
    • Frost the top and sides of the cake, smoothing with an offset spatula.
    • Decorate:
    • If desired, decorate the cake with fresh flowers and a sprinkle of edible glitter.
    • Serve:
    • Slice and enjoy this decadent black velvet cake!
