Elegant Black Velvet Cake 🍇🖤
Ingredients:
- For the Cake:
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (preferably dark cocoa powder)
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup buttermilk, room temperature
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 teaspoon black gel food coloring
- For the Frosting:
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (preferably dark cocoa powder)
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- For Decoration:
- Fresh flowers (optional)
- Edible glitter (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line three 9-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
- Prepare the Cake Batter:
- In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed until well combined.
- Gradually add the boiling water to the batter, mixing until smooth. Stir in the black gel food coloring until evenly distributed.
- Bake the Cakes:
- Divide the batter evenly among the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Prepare the Frosting:
- In a large bowl, beat the butter until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar and cocoa powder, mixing on low speed until combined.
- Increase the speed to medium and add the heavy cream, vanilla extract, and salt. Beat until the frosting is light and fluffy.
- Assemble the Cake:
- Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a generous amount of frosting over the top. Repeat with the second and third layers.
- Frost the top and sides of the cake, smoothing with an offset spatula.
- Decorate:
- If desired, decorate the cake with fresh flowers and a sprinkle of edible glitter.
- Serve:
